Leadership Trails
OKAVANGO, BOTSWANA

Few people return from a wilderness experience without a clearer sense of purpose and balance.

Trails offer a silent and dignified entry into the sacred wilderness space. A space only accessed with humility and respect. One should tread lightly here, ever alert to this ancient order of passage. For it  holds much that is valuable to the human spirit. Vulnerability. Connection. Grounding. The earth provides a prime source of understanding and knowledge.

This provides moments of personal clarity, triumph, tolerance and regeneration.

Nature is home. A redemptive silent space to be.

These empty moments are crucial to navigate modern leadership, and to fully integrate the innovation that can emerge from them. Our restorative encounters in the wild translate these new rules of engagement. Times to slow down and re-calibrate.

The Okavango Delta

The trail is completely unplugged.

The timeless wild-land of the Okavango, the most pristine inland delta in the world is our office. A vast 20 000 square kilometre oasis  and World Heritage Site that floods in the dry season, bringing delta to desert. This dramatic ebb provides a myriad of wildlife water and sustenance. A true ecological miracle.

We have two areas of operation the the Okavango:

1. Set deep within a secluded enclave of Chief’s Island and the Moremi Game Reserve. Here, far beyond the last vehicle or motor-boat, is where our adventures begin. Unique unplugged access is only by traditional dugout canoe (mekoro) and on foot. Walks on the islands are in search of elephant, lion, buffalo, wild dog, leopard, giraffe and other animals. Tracking and stalking is part of the fare, ensuring stirring and exciting encounters along the way.

2. Set on the south-western section of the delta close to the Xudum River. Considered a 'dry delta' experience as this region does not receive regular flooding, and explorations are a combo of walks and game drives. Due to limited water, game viewing is excellent, and is certainly not considered a secondary Okavango experience. But when it floods, oh wow does it flood! Truly spectacular!

Some examples of our trail keystones are:

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

The art of paying attention, the foundation to all observation and understanding. The presence of wild animals deepened by the silence, sharpens our senses, awakening our instincts. This can be highly energising. This promotes crucial life skills, critical thinking, as well as ‘reasoning in the moment’. Deep observation skills and attention to intuition come to the fore.

TRACKING
Learning about the signs animals leave is highly enlightening. Tracking beetles or antelope is one thing, but big game is another, as this awakens all avenues of perception. Your senses become alive! This is the origin of lateral and circular thought patterns, and encourages you to ‘look outside the box’ and assimilate information that is not normally not obvious. It promotes a return to ’the indigenous self’.

SOLITUDE
Downloading, or the road back to the self. This is very powerful in wild places without artificial interferences. Solitude is the building block toward inner dialogue as well as awakening deep observation skills based on animal sightings, encounters, dialogue with the group, and ecological interplay. Non-motorised travel and pristine landscapes provides deep meditative states, yet we are still highly alert to signals around us. Being on foot, exposed and vulnerable, is essential for the process of awakening ecological and social humility.
